Air Testing

HRS has the most comprehensive resources for carrying out air testing procedures in the whole of the UK and also in some cases abroad in terms of air testing kit and staff. HRS has a range of fans to suit all components and building types, from small, modular Portafans for buildings with between a 1 and 2000 mē floor area, up to a Megafan for testing buildings the size of Canary Wharf.

Our air testing procedures are all operated by site teams who have many years experience of air testing and related works. The Portafans are, as named, portable, easy to set-up in sets of 1-4 and capable of being used in restricted areas. The Megafan, currently the largest in the world, is the mother of all fans and is perfect for testing large commercial buildings and factories, for example.

On a cold, overcast day in February, HRS Services turned up on-site with the full range of air testing equipment. An air tightness test and smoke test was carried out on the whole building. Subsequently, a thermographic survey of the external envelope and a detailed visual inspection were carried out. The complete report was made available to Powys County Council on CD with a summary of where the problems were located and their extent.

Design Reviews ensure that air tight elements are fit for the intended purpose and will have the necessary life span. Our expertise, skills and experience provide clients with pragmatic design solutions to minimise the risk of the air tightness works failing in the short and long term.

Drawing on our technical knowledge and experience we identify areas of the building design and specification that pose a hazard to the air tightness specification. Aspects to review for air tight elements can include their material specification and physical characteristics, air permeability, detailed design, proposed installation procedures and operational requirements.
