Bridge repair on the QE II Bridge is most demanding as any problems lead to horrendous congestion and the knock on consequences to bridge users and bridge maintenance can be astounding. Our working relationship over the years has been exemplary based on a ensuring all works are carried out to the highest standards using well trained and experienced labour on site.
HRS were asked to provide all the access systems, installation, maintenance and on site training to enable the existing and new catenary cables on the Tagus Bridge to be painted and for any bridge repair to be carried out.The contract was won after HRS submitted a detailed proposal covering the use of rope access, powered cradles, cradles descending on tensioned wire ropes, mobile access platforms and fixed netting.
Over a period of 2 years HRS supplied the equipment, back up, training and on site supervision to enable a team of upto 50 operatives to paint the bridge cables and carry out bridge repair. The need to co-ordinate the works with other contractors on site and traffic using the bridge required a high degree of project management input.The painting works were finished on time, budget and without serious incident.
