Meeting CO2 emissions & EPC requirements for new non-domestic buildings

The Energy Performance Certificate is an asset rating based on the theoretical performance of the building design subject to standardised usage, occupancy and environmental conditions.

Consideration of all factors that contribute to the buildings performance is critical to ensure that desired parameters are complied with. Just because the building envelope meets the thermal requirements of Part L, does not necessarily mean that the carbon dioxide emissions target will be reached. If only the minimum acceptable standards are specified for the envelope and services then the project will not comply with the energy calculation target for Building Regulations compliance. It is therefore critical that the whole design team is aware of the requirements and their role in helping the building to comply.
