Flagship Projects - Geotechnical
Railtrack
identified this deep cutting as unstable, and carried out a major stabilisation
project, involving casting massive concrete beams to hold the cutting
faces in place and then HRS installing netting to retain small debris
that might be freed by future weathering. HRS put forward design solutions
for both the rock anchors and dowels to use and the containment nets
to install.
A team from HRS Services spent eight weeks working along the cutting as each section was cleared by the civil engineers. There were no technical complexities in rolling the netting out in a controlled manner, but given the gradient angle, no other means of access could have protected the operatives and supported the materials simultaneously. Access at the top and bottom of the cutting and from end to end was very restricted and the co-ordination of all the works and supply and movement of materials crucial to the success of the project. Whilst on site, HRS were requested to carry out many extras due to their overall effectiveness on earlier phases.
The client was so impressed by HRS on site, that many extras were awarded and their scope of works greatly increased.
The final scheme was completed without mishap and on time and was valued over £250,000.
Lime Street cutting had heavy vegetation growing along it which needed to be removed as the risk of root damage and 'jacking' was considerable. However, the cutting was large and possessions short
HRS were able to provide 20 operatives every week for a single shift early on Sunday mornings to remove the vegetation.
