Our Inspection & Maintenance team made sure Christmas came early to Sheffield on Saturday 18th November by donating our time and staff to help Sheffield Children’s Hospital attach this year’s festive lights to the outside of the hospital building.
Staff donned a variety of costumes to bring smiles to patients’, staff and locals’ faces as James Rhodes (Father Christmas), Rich Hunt (Elf) and Colin Harden (Spiderman) put their abseiling skills to excellent use. Supported by colleagues Jon Fullwood, Chris Whitehead, Rebecca Oxley and Andreea Bertea the HRS Services team spent the day erecting snowflake lights on the roof of the hospital. Our specialist rope access staff carefully lowered the lights over the edge of the building so they could be safely fixed in place ready to bring some festive cheer to the hospital.
The snowflakes, which are sponsored by local charities, raised over £100,000 last year and Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity is on course to beat that this year! There are over 140 snowflakes lighting up the hospital and for the first time ever there is a dedicated area for school snowflakes, sponsored by local schools. The money raised from sponsorship of the lights goes towards buying life-saving equipment, vital research and making the hospital a comfortable place for patients and parents.
HRS Services has over 30 years’ experience providing Inspection & Maintenance services to buildings and UK infrastructure, including Rail and Highways. We employ difficult access techniques including rope access, drones and Mobile Elevating Work platforms (MEWPs) to check the condition and safe operation of a range of structures and buildings. However, in over three decades worth of experience it is the first time we’ve been joined on a job by Saint Nick himself!
Chris Whitehead, Managing Director of HRS Services, said: “I’m delighted to lend our help and support to such a worthwhile local charity. Sheffield Children’s Hospital do some fantastic work and I’m pleased that we were able to provide some willing volunteers to support their efforts.”
Tchad Western, Corporate Partnerships Manager at The Children’s Hospital Charity, said: “I’d like to thank the HRS Services team for their hard work over the course of the weekend. Everyone associated with the charity really appreciated their help and expertise.”
The grand switch on at Sheffield Children’s Hospital is scheduled for 7pm on Monday 4th December. You can donate to Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity at tchc.org.uk/donate/.
